The East Hampton boys tennis team, which includes players from Pierson and Bridgehampton, won its final two matches of the season to clinch a share of the League VII title with Westhampton Beach. Following a bizarre week in which the second doubles teams from East Hampton and Westhampton met for a second time to decide the ultimate outcome of that match, the Bonackers cruised in 7-0 and 6-1 victories over Southold/Greenport and Rocky Point, respectively, to close out the regular season.
The Hurricanes closed out their season with wins over Shoreham Wading River and the Ross School as both teams finished with identical 9-1 records.
Pierson eighth-grader Luke Louchheim closed out an undefeated regular-season record with straight-set wins against Southold/Greenport and Rocky Point. Pierson’s Brad Drubych also picked up a victory against Rocky Point, playing at fourth singles, and Alex Weseley, a Pierson junior, and James Fairchild, a Bridgehampton student, won 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles.
The team will now turn its focus to the postseason, with the Division IV Tournament set to begin on Friday, May 4, at William Floyd High School at 10 a.m. The quarter and semifinals will be the following day at the same location, starting at 9 a.m., with the finals being held on Monday, also at William Floyd, at 3 p.m.
The Suffolk County Team Tournament is scheduled to begin on May 15.
