‘Artists Speak’ Wraps with Peter Spacek

'Artistic License' by Peter Spacek.

Peter Spacek was born in Germany and raised in California. His love of drawing brought him to New York to pursue a career in editorial illustration. His love of surfing brought him farther east to Montauk.

Now the editorial cartoonist for The East Hampton Star— with a line of witty beach culture cards and graphic apparel sold under the Ditch Ink brand — Spacek calls the East End home, and will talk with Casey Dalene on Wednesday, September 5, at 6 p.m. at The Art Barge, as the last guest in the Victor D’Amico Institute of Art’s “Artists Speak” series.

“While Spacek is best known for his cartoons and illustrations, the talk will span his entire career including education, influences and travels, covering his entire body of work, as well as offering an exchange between the two artists of reflections on the art world, art education, and creative living on the East End,” according to a press release, adding, “When he is not drawing and cartooning, surfing or chasing fish in his kayak, he creates scrimshaw fine art on recycled surfboards.”

The Art Barge is located at 110 Napeague Meadow Road in Amagansett. Tickets are $20 and $18 for Friends of the Victor D’Amico Institute of Art. For more information, call (631) 267-3172 or visit theartbarge.org.
