It’s never a challenge to track down the major Oscar nods before the Academy Awards air —this year on March 4 — but the lesser-known nominees can be near impossible.
Bay Street Theater and the Hamptons International Film Festival are making it easier.
On Sunday, February 18, they will partner to screen “The Insult,” a nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, at 1 p.m. at the Sag Harbor theater, as part of a winter film series. The 112-minute film directed by Ziad Doueiri follows a civilian dispute between a Lebanese Christian and a Palestinian refugee blown out of proportion. As they face off in court, the media circus surrounding the case threatens a social explosion in divided Lebanon, and the two men must reconsider their values and beliefs as revelations of trauma complicate their understanding of one another.
The following weekend, the nominees for Best Animated Short Film will screen on Saturday, February 24, at 12 and 5 p.m., and the nominees for Best Live Action Short Film will be shown at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. at Bay Street Theater. Additional dates are Saturday, March 10, and Sunday, March 18, and films will soon be announced.
Tickets are $15. For more information, please call (631) 725-9500 or visit baystreet.org.
