17 Trucks Taken Out of Service During Inspection Detail in Sag Harbor

Sag Harbor Village Police assisted officers from the New York State Department of Transportation in a safety enforcement detail throughout the village on September 20, which resulted in 17 commercial trucks being taken off the road due to having numerous safety violations.

According to Sag Harbor Village Police Chief Austin J. McGuire, 35 tickets were written during inspections of 36 trucks, which were stopped throughout the village and instructed to go to an inspection site set up at Havens Beach. Among the violations they found, Chief McGuire said, was a trailer holding a piece of machinery that weighed 1,000 pounds more than the trailer was equipped to handle.

“The DOT works in all different jurisdictions throughout the East End,” the chief said Tuesday. “We take these things very seriously. … There are a lot of commercial vehicles around here.”
