Serious Homemade Pizza
“It’s almost too serious for me.”
– Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show, discussing his new Kalamazoo outdoor kitchen appliance.
Outdoor pizza ovens are the hot new component for luxury outdoor kitchens across the East End, according to the folks at Pembrooke Fine Landscapes, a Quogue-based firm that was installing a state-of-the art new outdoor kitchen in Southampton when they brought to our attention the gas-fired Kalamazoo Pizza Oven, which does not come cheap with a listed retail price of nearly $8,000.
The oven is made of two stones with two burners to create an authentic pizza cooking experience. The bottom stone is hollow as to heat and cool quickly, whereas the stone on top radiates heat back down to blister toppings and create that authentic Neapolitan-style pizza flavor. After a 45-minute pre-heat, the oven can bake perfectly cooked pizza in less than three minutes.
The Kalamazoo line was even a hot topic of conversation on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the charismatic host who loves to frequent Sag Harbor, but cooks primarily “burgers and hot dogs” on his new state-of-the-art set-up.
Should Jimmy or anyone else want to delve into pizza making, we recommend these three East End locations as required stops for pizza-making goodies.
